Volunteers from Leeds Building Society’s branches spent a day chatting and playing dominoes with elderly residents at a North Leeds care home.
Jane Ashley, Assistant Manager at the Moortown branch, organised a Rock and Roll and 1940s themed dance afternoon at Donisthorpe Hall with her dance class.
“Some of the residents were tapping their feet and said the music brought back really happy memories and we’ve been asked to return,” said Jane.

“The dancers thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon too and said they all felt really good being able to give something back.”
The seven Moortown, Chapel Allerton and Headingley branch colleagues took advantage of the volunteering scheme, which allows all Society employees a day’s paid leave each year to help in the community.
Candace Grant, Social Care Manager at Donisthorpe Hall, said: “We had a lovely day with the volunteers from Leeds Building Society; the residents were engaged in some interesting conversations and some very competitive games of dominoes!
“The dancing in the afternoon was terrific – residents sat for two hours marvelling at the wonderful spectacle of the 1940s costumes.

“We are so grateful to all concerned for making it a day to remember – and we hope to see the volunteers from Leeds Building Society back at Donisthorpe Hall very soon.”
