The Sun Room

All residents are welcome to visit the Donisthorpe Sun Room a room with a tropical beach backdrop, the sound of the ocean lapping the shore and the sun shining 365 days a year via specially adapted lighting which creates natural sunlight and warmth

The aim of the room is to give mind and body a boost by giving visitors the full spectrum of light that you’d get from the sun, but with considerably lower levels of UVA and UVB, the light wavelengths associated with skin problems.

Research from the Netherlands showed that using bright lights during the day in care homes helped improve sleep patterns, reduced depressive symptoms and improved cognitive function.

Relatives are more than welcome to accompany residents for a fruity cocktail and ice lolly on a visit to Bali, Mauritius or Miami.

Our state of the art laundry was commissioned in 2007 and was opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds in December of that year. The laundry incorporates a complete barrier system to support the control of infection within the home. The equipment consists of 2 separate 50kg washers, 2 dryers together with finishing equipment for folding and pressing linen and personal items. Dirty and clean laundry are kept completely separate using the barrier system. Our personal laundry service extends to the identification of all individual residents’ clothing using a buttoning system.

Our Grounds

“A Walk in the Park”

At Donisthorpe we believe that nature has a positive effect on our well- being. Colourful & fragrant flowers adorn our peaceful gardens in the summer months.

The gardens are carefully landscaped by our full time gardener with many therapeutic plants such as lavender and flowers that attract the birds and the bees.

Our garden has won many awards including the Gold Award in Yorkshire in Bloom

Here are the judges comments:

The grounds at Donisthorpe Hall are beautifully maintained and are sensitively managed, with a great deal of thought being given to the type of planting the residents, their families and the staff will enjoy, creating distinct intimate areas and encouraging wildlife.

Areas of Achievement
The grounds are managed organically, which is to be commended. The mosaics, one depicting a heron and another a butterfly, are interesting features. The grass is well managed – despite the difficult season, well done! The pond area is lovely and all created using recycled materials.

Our in house Physiotherapy Department believe in ensuring residents feel as though they are at home. The caring staff focus on treatments that will keep residents as active and independent as possible and attend to their overall well-being. Our qualified physiotherapists try to bring an element of fun to their sessions; they provide a weekly keep fit class which is one of the most popular activities we offer.

Practical issues our Physiotherapists are on hand to help with include:-

– Rehabilitation to improve resident’s ability to carry out their day to day activities

– Mobility

– Health promotion

– Respiratory problems

– Equipment and aids

All our physiotherapists are HCPC and CSP registered.
